Choosing a Class
The age recommendations outlined for Kindermusik
classes have been carefully constructed to best group children in an
age and developmentally appropriate way. Therefore, it is important
that your child be the minimum age, or turning the minimum age within
the length of the semester, for the class in which you are enrolling.
If you have concerns about your child’s success in a particular age
range, I am happy to discuss your child’s needs and to work with you to
place him in the class best suited for him.
Register Early
Although you may join our classes at any time,
please register early since class sizes are limited. Registering at
least three weeks before the semester begins also ensures that I will
have your child’s materials for you at your first class. If you enroll
after the semester begins, tuition can be pro-rated accordingly.
Enrollment Confirmation
A registration form and payment must be received
before enrollment can be confirmed. You will receive a phone call or
e-mail notice within two weeks to confirm your registration.
Payment Options
For your convenience, I offer two payment options:
- Payment in full at the time of registration
- Materials fee due with registration,
balance due by first class.
Refunds
No refunds will be given due to child absences.
However, tuition refunds or credit vouchers will be considered on an
individual basis if there are extenuating circumstances requiring
withdrawal from class. The cost of materials are non-refundable.
Make-up Classes
Classes will be made up in the event of teacher
illness or inclement weather. For morning classes, we follow Portland
Public School for snow days. For afternoon classes, I will notify each
family of cancellations. Please check the website for postings on snowy
days.
Non-enrolled Siblings
Due to limited class sizes and the disruptions
extra distractions may bring, Kindermusik classes can only accommodate
non-enrolled siblings when the sibling is young enough to stay
contented in a car seat or front carrier. However, a waiting room is
available if the siblings are old enough to stay alone or if you
furnish a babysitter.
Making the Most of Kindermusik Classes
Plan to arrive about 5-10 minutes early for class.
Arriving a little before class provides time for your child to settle
in to the musical environment as they prepare to enjoy exploring
instruments, reading books, or listening to music. I do request that
toys, juice cups, and pacifiers be kept out of sight, and that snacks
be finished prior to class. Be sure to dress comfortably.
During class, the most important thing you can do
for your child is to be an active and patient role model. It is not
uncommon for a child to attend several classes before feeling
comfortable in class. Don’t be discouraged – what a child is absorbing
in class is often evidenced in the comfort of the home environment
rather than in a certain level of participation in class. The
understanding and consistency of the parent or caregiver in class and
at home are key to facilitating musical learning and growth.
You and your child will enormously benefit from
the Kindermusik experience, especially if you make active use of your
At Home materials. Frequent reinforcement at home throughout the week
makes all the difference in a child’s comfort and participation in the
classroom.
